Temporomendibular joint is a hinge joint that connects the lower jaw to the temporal bone of the skull. This joint is normally flexible as it allows the easy movement of the jaw upwards and downwards as well as sideways. Splints are also useful in treating this disorder. Splints are usually fitted in the mouth to ensure that the upper and lower teeth do not come together. This is usually important in preventing you from grinding or clenching your teeth and this makes it easier for you to recover.

Once you know that you have temporomendibular joint disorder, it is important to seek the necessary treatment as soon as possible. There are different ways of treating this disorder. Therefore, a doctor will recommend a certain form of treatment depending on how severe the condition is.
