One of the systems of the body that requires regular cleansing is the colon. Two main options are available for this process. These include the use of cleansing products or an irrigative process. Cleansing products can be easily obtained over the counter and include laxatives, magnesium, herbal teas, enemas and enzymes among others. They are taken either orally or rectally. Irrigation has been shown to achieve the best results. A hydro-therapist uses water under low pressure to empty large gut contents. In addition, they do not register satiety readily hence one is likely to overeat. Removing them through cleansing and increasing fiber content in food greatly helps in weight loss.

When the health of your gut is compromised, there is a high probability that your mental health will be affected as well. The main reason for this is that the vital vitamins that are required for your staying alert may not be adequately absorbed. When you engage in regular detoxification, toxins and any mucous that may be hampering the process are removed.

Mineral salts and water are mainly absorbed by the large gut. These are central to the maintenance of normal body pH. In a constipated individual, the process of absorption is impaired and instead the mucosa becomes inflamed which allows disease causing organisms to enter the blood stream. The pH becomes acidic hampering numerous body processes.

As for most medical procedures, there are a number of risk associated with this process. Some of them include cramps, nausea, vomiting, reduction of normal gut flora and mineral imbalance. These risks generally increase with an increasing number of procedures. When done in the right manner, however, these risks are markedly reduced.
