Information On Alternative Lyme Therapies

By Virginia Turner

Among the many diseases which are transmitted by ticks, Lyme disease happens to be the most common of them all. Its rate of infection is very high as the disease is highly contagious. There are thousands of new cases of the infection with each New Year. It can also be passed from one person to anther through saliva, breast milk and semen. The following is therefore information on alternative lyme therapies.

One is always advised to seek immediate medical attention when they suspect that they have been bitten by ticks or when they show any appearing symptoms. The patient should disclose every bit of information including whether or not they have visited ay tick- infested areas. In addition to that, they should understand that diagnosis of Lyme disease in the early stages is not easy.

A person does not have to spend a fortune and waste a lot of time when treating the disease in its early stages. Doctors of ten prescribe their patients with antibiotics such as Doxycycline in the case of adults. This means that the extensive and time-consuming laboratory procedures are not necessary in this case.

Intravenous antibiotics are used for treatment if the disease involves the central nervous system. Doctors usually recommend treatment for a period of about thirty days. It has been rendered effective in the elimination of the infection, although it may take quite some time before all the symptoms disappear. The side effects include lowering of the number of white blood cells and various degrees of diarrhea.

In the case of special cases such as pregnant ladies and children who are below nine years of age and are affected by Lyme disease, alternative medication is administered. The safest and the most effective medicine in this case is Amoxicillin or Penicillin. This is because drugs such as Doxycycline have the effect of permanently staining the teeth of the young ones and even the unborn babies. Those who are allergic to penicillin are offered Erythromycin, which is also effective for treatment.

Once treatment has been completed, the symptoms of the disease usually take quite some time before they can all go away. Since they eventually heal on their own, antibiotic therapy is not needed in this case as one is just supposed to be a little patient and give this mode of treatment a chance as it has previously worked for others.

Finally, given the long processes that one has to undergo during treatment, it always helps to prevent the transmission of this infection. This can be done effectively through avoiding being bitten by deer ticks which are more prone in grasslands and wooden areas. One can avoid them by wearing appropriate clothing when going to areas such as this.

In conclusion, the most effective way to treat this illness is early when there is still hope for quick recovery. In this stage, simple antibiotics will do the work. The recovery process will also not be stressful. When one waits until its too late, the disease becomes complicated hence difficult to treat as it.
