Essential Oil Alternative For Different Purposes

By Nancy Murray

The uses of essential oils range from therapy to scent and physical benefits. Some are preferred for medicinal purposes because their natural form makes them free of side effects. Their effectiveness during management of certain conditions has made the extracts a popular choice for domestic health. The challenge arises when you consider the price of these oils. It is too high that common users are looking for essential oil alternative that will still offer these benefits.

Rose is a common extract for aromatherapy and perfume production. It features high in the list of the most adulterated oils. However, difficulty in extraction makes its price out of reach for ordinary buyers. It would take a thousand petals to extract a very small quantity. To substitute Rose, geranium comes in handy. It contains a significantly high amount of alcohol and is also preferred by a large number of women for skin care.

The common name for Melisa is lemon balm since lemon is the extract used in adulterating it. Its extraction procedure requires the use of a lot of plants to get a significant amount of juice. Melisa is a common choice for aromatherapy. It also works perfectly in repelling insects indoors. Two alternatives can offer almost similar benefits. They are bergamot and lavender which are considerably affordable.

Neroli oils are a favorite because of the citric feel and are common in the perfume industry. It is popular in the skin care industry and for relieving stress. Some of the substitutes available in the market include geranium for skin care and lavender for stress relief. Peppermint is another option that will produce similarly good results.

Some of the oils are chosen because they offer medicinal benefits. An example is lavender which is used in treatment and management of insect bites, skin disorders, acne, scratches and shallow cuts. Lavender is a popular choice for aroma therapy beyond being used to ignite a good night sleep. Its scent is used as a stress and anxiety reliever and can also be used in disinfecting. Very few oils can match such uses.

The health benefits of lemon are impossible to match. They are so diverse that they include uses in the body and on the skin. Among them is acting as an energy boost as well as stimulating lymphatic drain. It is a perfect extract for cleansing the body of toxins and promoting weight loss related neurological activities. When a few drops are added into water, they help in soothing a sore throat.

Tea tree is a very potent essential oil in a class of its own. Its medicinal properties make it a choice for many in fighting bacteria, fungi and viruses. It works excellently in disinfecting wounds and has been used as a substitute for conventional medicine on several occasions. Tea tree comes with a synergistic element that protects the body from developing resistance against antibiotics.

It is impossible to find a perfect alternative for any essential oil. This is primarily due to the variety of benefits each extract offers. However, when targeting a particular benefit like perfume, disinfection, aromatherapy, etc, you have several options. The alternatives should not be used in place of prescribed medicines. These extracts should also be used in moderation and according to researched instructions.
