Allergic Asthma: Facts That You Should Know

The immune system is a system of biological structures and processes within our body that protects against bacteria and viruses that can cause harm to our body. But there are instances that the immune system attacks harmless substances. The immune system treats these harmless substances as invaders; it stimulates special defensive cells which causes allergic reaction to the body. Histamine is one of the chemicals that the body produces which is the cause of inflammation and swelling. Runny nose, itchy eyes, and sneezing are some of the symptoms that a person might experience. The usual people that experience this are people who have allergies.

Allergic asthma is one of the common types of asthma which symptoms is cause by inhaling allergens. Such allergens include molts, pollen, and mites. Asthma has the tendency to worsen when a person is exposed on too much smoke, dust, fumes, and sometimes strong smells. The case in people with allergic case is very much different to people with non-allergic asthma. In allergic asthma, the immune system overreacts when these allergens gets into the airways. The airways become flooded with thick mucus and inflamed. The airways become hypersensitive to allergens when a person has an allergic asthma.

It's really important that people with allergic asthma understand their allergy and asthma triggers and learns the facts about preventing asthma symptoms. The symptoms of an allergic asthma is the same as a non-allergic asthma which includes wheezing, rapid breathing, shortness of breath, coughing, and tightening of the chest. You should also be aware that irritants can also trigger asthma attacks not just allergens. These irritants includes air pollution, cold air, dusty workplace, tobacco smoke, strong chemical odors, and perfumes to name a few.

It is vital that you learn to control your allergic asthma. An effective way of controlling it is by limiting your exposure to allergens. As you are well aware that pollen is an allergen which is why you should stay inside your house or building when pollen counts are high and keep your windows closed. You should always have a clean air filters in your air conditioner. You should wash your sheets and other beddings once a week in very hot water to eliminate dust mites. Get rid of areas where dust can accumulate, like heavy curtains and the likes. Use a dehumidifier or air conditioner if moisture is a problem in your home. Determining the allergens to which you've become sensitized is very much beneficial to avoid asthma attacks.

Visit an asthma specialist to find out what medication is applicable to your condition. You should be well aware that there are different approaches to medication when it comes to asthma. You may not know when asthma might attacks no matter how cautious you are which is why it is advisable that you carry your medication wherever you go.
