Kent WA Chiropractic Doctor Provides Tips On Alleviating Back Pain Naturally

By Lonnie Trevarthen

When back pain strikes it can leave you temporarily disabled and unable to enjoy life. A painful back may prevent you from sleeping or performing the simplest of tasks. Your Kent chiropractor understands back problems and offers helpful tips to for backs that hurt.

When your back hurts you can try ice or heat. This is a natural method for reducing inflammation and discomfort. Ice is usually preferred for the first 24 hours or so after an injury or when you first notice pain. After that heat is best and it is a good idea to ice or heat your back for about 20 minutes several times a day.

When using an electric heating pad, be cautious. It is very easy to fall asleep while using a pad. This can be dangerous because it may burn the skin after hours of exposure. Make certain to purchase heating pads that have automatic shut off features, or you could go with a hot water bottle for maximum safety.

Over-the-counter pain drugs like naproxen, ibuprofen, and aspirin, may help with temporary pain. They work as an anti inflammatory but can thin the blood and cause digestive upsets. Do not mix these drugs with blood thinners and take them with food to avoid stomach upsets. Also, acetaminophen may be less effective for this kind of pain.

If you are having severe back pain, it may be the sign of a more serious health condition. When pain is intense, do not take any chances and go to the nearest emergency medical center. It is better to be safe than sorry.

If back pain is taking over your life, see your local chiropractic professional for help. Your first visit will include an examination and consultation with your Kent chiropractor. Your therapy may include high tech as well as time tested procedures, which are safe and effective.
