The process is a bit straightforward but requires a lot of expertise. An ultrasonic remover is used to remove tartar and plaque stuck in the oral cavity. A water sprayer is then used to wash the debris that has been loosened. Retained plaque is removed using a hand scrapper. One of the advantages of this process is that there is very little associated discomfort.

Professional cleaning of teeth is associated with numerous benefits. Disease prevention is perhaps the most important of these benefits. Regardless of the frequency at which you clean, there are organisms that are almost always left in the oral cavity. These organisms harden with time to form toxin-producing plaques. All these processes lead increased incidence of gum disease.

Controlling infections helps in increasing the life span of the teeth. Usually, infections that go untreated may progress into the roots which may affect their support. Subsequently, the teeth may fall off with time. When prevented earlier, however, this progress is halted. The dentist should take time to take a thorough oral examination that will seek to identify any focus of infection before it spreads.

Having a brighter smile is definitely another benefit that you will enjoy. If you are an individual whose teeth have been stained by coffee, tea, tobacco smoke or some forms of medications, you will be a great beneficiary. Most of these stains are stubborn and cannot be removed using ordinary tooth paste. The dentist does however have some special chemicals that can be used for the process.

Bad breath is something that many people struggle with. If this problem is not addressed in time, it becomes a major threat to social relationships. There are many causes of bad breath one of which is poorly oral hygiene. As human beings, we are made up of several organ systems that are interconnected. A problem in one system is likely to affect other systems and cause a major illness. As a matter of fact, it has been shown that there is some relationship between periodontal disease and heart disease. This occurs when there is an infection in the oral cavity in an individual with or without a pre-existing heart lesion. Keeping the oral cavity clean significantly lowers this risk.

If you combine your routine teeth cleaning with regular visits to the dentist, you will have remarkable oral hygiene and prevention of many systemic diseases. There should be at least one visit for the average person and a lot more for the person with gum disease.
