Possible Causes Of Navicular Syndrome In Horses

By Young Lindsay

One living creature that could feel the same discomfort that men could experience are animals. There are many pet and animal lovers all over the world who are campaigning awareness on the health of these other creatures. And no matter what reason you have for keeping a pet or an animal, you need to take care of them.

Lameness is one common sickness that horses experience. This is usually caused by a condition known as the navicular syndrome in horses. This condition targets the bones and ligaments of the feet. These is more common to mammals who has a navicular bone. If it is not given enough attention your horse would eventually lose the ability to walk.

One of the most important things that you should do when you are with your pet is to observe his or her behavior especially if they are already of an older age. When you notice that the feet of your animal is inflamed, this is one indication that it is suffering from something. Aside from the ligaments itself, it can also affect the surrounding nerves and tissues.

And as the horse ages, the condition worsens. For those who care too much for their rides and pets and do not want to see this suffering, you only need to make sure that you are not doing things that could result to disease. There are day to day activities that could result to this.

Compression is something that is bad for the bones of your pets. If there is constant pressure or compression on the feet of the horse it would eventually lead to the degeneration process. It would also lead to the decline of the mobility of your pet. It would not be able to move around like it used to.

When there is constant compression, as much as possible you should avoid making your animal do activities that would put high tension to the ligaments. Tension cause the rubbing of the joints and the ligaments. And as the ligaments wear off, there would be nothing to prevent the scrubbing of each bone and it would be very painful. This disease can be a comparison to the arthritis that humans experience.

What makes steeds very amazing to watch is because they are graceful even when they are making very difficult movements. Horses commonly jump over something, be it because of an obstacle or the terrain. With this, you need to ensure that the landing of your animal is perfect. Otherwise it can be the cause of its suffering from navicular disease.

In choosing the shoes that you would put on their feet, it is important that it should be done properly. The size of the shoes should be the right fit as well. If done in the wrong way, it would eventually affect the feet of your horses.

Exercise is essential not only for humans but for your animals as well. Just because they have a big body does not mean that they are healthy. It is also not advisable that horses be over weight because this will strain their feet tendons and can even cause the navicular syndrome.
