Lakeland FL Chiropractic Office Helps Relieve Whiplash Pain

By Donna Beley

The victim of an automobile crash may be left with excruciating pain. A whiplash injury is often the result of a rear end collision. The severity of the hurt can be reduced with the help of a Lakeland FL Chiropractor. This care will not require pain medication or any invasive procedure.

Most individuals are familiar with the injury to infants known as shaken baby syndrome. The baby's head is jerked forward and backward repeatedly. A similar movement occurs in a rear end automobile accident.

Since the inception of legally required seat belt use, lives have been saved. No one wearing a seat belt can be thrown out in the event of an accident. But, there is no protection against having the head jerked backward and then forward during the crash.

It may not take effect immediately after the crash occurs. Sometimes hours will pass before the hurting starts. A cervical collar, worn to stabilize the head, is beneficial for a short time.

There are seven cervical vertebrae in the neck. As you may know, these are the uppermost bones in the spinal column. When one or more is misaligned, or out of place, it causes great hurt.

Prior to formulating a care plan, the chiropractor will do a thorough evaluation to assess the clients condition. The spine will be examined physically. Often an x-ray is required to pinpoint the exact location of the injury.

The exam is completed by asking a series of questions. Only when the chiropractor feels the client will be helped with a specific care plan will one be scheduled. Spinal adjustments to return the vertebrae to their correct position are known to be very effective.

The adjustments will serve to realign the vertebrae in the neck that are causing pain by impacting the nerves located there. It will result in a lessening of the pain over time. The stiffness will gradually be relaxed and the client can return to normal activities once again.
