The Foundation Of Psychoanalytic Training

By Judy Sullivan

Psychoanalysis is known as the system of psychological therapy methods that can be used to aid in mental disorders. One of things that this type of system would do is to bring the thoughts that can be found in the subconscious mind into the conscious mind. So for those who are curious about how this works, here are some things to learn in psychoanalytic training.

Now the very core of this type of training would be in the main concepts of psychoanalysis which are the three main parts of the mind according to Freud. Now these three main parts would be none other than the id, the ego, and of course the superego. According to Freud, these three aspects would make up the human mind and can be used to determine the root problem of a person who has a certain psychological problem.

Now the first thing to look at will be the id which are the natural instincts that a person has when he is born. Basically, these are the impulse instincts that would include hunger and sex drive which comes natural in a human being. His theory is that people tend to act impulsively based on these certain instincts.

This is followed by the ego which is actually the one driving force that would make the individual perform certain acts. Now the difference with the ego is that it does warn the mind of certain negative consequences that may actually happen after doing the act. It is because of this that ego can appear sometimes in the conscious mind and also sometimes in the subconscious mind.

Followed by that would be the superego which is known to be the one that would that sets the boundaries in the mind. If one is about to perform a certain act that has a negative consequence, then it is actually the superego that would stop the mind from doing anything. In a sense, it can actually be thought of as the human conscience.

Now one thing that Sigmund Freud really put emphasis on was the sexual urges of a person. Basically, psychological problems would all be rooted in the sex drive and is caused when a people would try to repress their own sexuality. Since every child is born with a sex drive, then denying it would be to deny a basic human instinct or nature.

Now another concept that Freud would emphasize a lot on would be the significance of dreams. In psychoanalysis, one of the most important parts of treatment would be to ask the patient about his dreams. The dreams were said to act as guides to what the root or foundation of the problem really is.

So basically, the main meat of psychoanalytic training would actually be learning how to come up with treatment methods. The most basic method would usually be a conversation with the patient that would uncover some cause of his main problem. The goal would be to use the concepts to uncover the causes of certain problems of patients.
