By Janine Hughes

In chemistry, it is defined as a metallic element which is hard and silvery white. Nickel is said to cause hair loss. This is normally a symptom of metal toxicity. However, hair loss occurs frequently among a number of people. There could be many reasons for this. Medical testing of hair is the only way to make sure that metal toxicity is the cause of loss. It is true that nickel causes hair loss, and the below information supports.

There are a number of toxic metals that exist. They normally occur naturally in the environment. Some are encountered more than others. Most heavy metals are said to be toxic. Examples include arsenic and aluminum. Other less common metals such as nickel are also under this category. Each one of them has their effects on the human body.

More research is being done on this topic. Scientists want to have definite proof of this problem. So much is still being done. There signs that are shown by those who react negatively to this metals. A person may end up itching a lot and this could be due to the presence of rashes. They could also feel certain uncomfortable sensations coupled with a change in skin color.

There are other signs than the above that point to this problem. Depending on the period of exposure irritation will be noted. The appearance of the skin at the point of contact will also have a different appearance. It may lack its smooth look and eventually form blisters. If this condition worsens, the manner in which the skin will look may be quite alarming.

When you notice some of these symptoms on your body, it is important to seek medical attention. An expert is the best person who can help you know what you are dealing with. They will ask you questions relevant with your condition. Observing you can also be of much of help. Patches ca be put on the skin to test if metal sensitivity is the problem.

You can prevent allergies to this metal. Obviously prevention is always better than cure. It is important to avoid items that contain it as a component. If you already have an allergy it is also good to avoid contact to this metal. There are home test kits that can be used to check for it. Avoiding nickel is hard as it is present in so many products.

There are a couple of remedies that you can choose to use. There a number of soothing lotions that can be quite helpful. These lotions are used to help ease itching. There are some over-the-counter-ointments that should be avoided. This is because they are not quite effective. They can worsen the allergy that one already has.

Though there is no definitive evidence that mentions hair loss as an effect of metal sensitivity, this idea should not be put aside. Some patients have noticed that the reduction in the amount of hair is caused by the presence of certain metals. When they avoid them some improvements are noticed. Major hair loss might as well be a symptom of a much progressed problem.
