A probiotic is basically bacteria for the digestive system, only the bacteria is good for the body and helps it to do its job. The usual method vegans have used to get these essential nutrients was to consume them from plant based foods such as kimchi, soy products that have been cultured or fermented, sauerkraut, miso and cultured vegetables. All these sources are good for obtaining probiotics. With the use of antibiotics in medicine these days, our digestive systems need the extra boost of probiotics to ensure our good health.

Always read the labels to see what they contain as some are made with a small amount of animal by products or ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction to those who are sensitive.

It is an added convenience for vegans who live busy lives and often do not have time to prepare the foods they need. The supplements provide a source of good bacteria that aids the digestive system and helps prevent disease and maintain good health.

The best way overall to get the essential bacteria the body needs is through foods plentiful with them. You will be gaining added nourishment as well as a tasty meal. A supplement will not replace actual meals and should never be used to do so. Always strive to prepare a healthy meal for yourself instead.
