A Wooden Stacking Game For Mental Development

By Odessa Edwards

Small children often play with a wooden stacking game because it is fun and amusing. Parents also encourage this toy because it improves a child's mental ability in terms of creativity and fine motor skills. Games such as this one are considered to be very important within a child's early years of development. Blocks in particular, are also wonderful as they can be played with on the floor, and spread out in any way that is pleasing to the child.

Blocks, as well as other items that can be efficiently stacked together, are usually intended for children between the ages of two and four, although there is no rule against older children playing with them as well. Young children have a habit of putting all sorts of things into their mouths, and therefore the size of blocks should be chosen carefully. A parent would not want their child to choke. Bigger items are also easier to hold by little hands. Plastic toys are readily available, but wood is a safer material for 'tasting'.

Apart from chewing, block are safe for the child base on possible sharp edges, the colors used for painting and if they can cause irritation for the child. Inhaling fumes from oil based pains will irritate your child and cause nasal problems. The nature of the color used is considered before buying a set of toys.

Babies usually find blocks of wood to be quite an interesting attraction, and they are useful for improving the movement of the child's hand towards an object. At a young age a baby should learn how to process visual information in the correct way, and understand how his or hand moves to and from various stimuli. A baby will be quite excited about blocks, even though adults may perceive them to be just simple objects.

Different colored blocks aid in color differentiation in the early stages of a child's brain development. Children are easily able to distinguish between bright colored blocks. Matching these colors during assembly aids the child's visual recollection.

Knowing the difference between different sizes of the wooden block is also important for the child. A set of toys with 5 different sizes is preferable, where the child can know how to distinguish from one size in comparison to the other. The toy set can come as a shape sequence set where the child sorts the blocks in different shapes, colors, and sizes. This kind of set is superb for the child's development.

Games that involve the placing of similar objects upon one another are excellent for early development for many reasons. They invoke a sense of creativity, and encourage children to touch and pick things up. Touch is one of the five senses that should be enhanced at the earliest age possible. The game also involves the skill of critical thinking, which is highly beneficial.

A wooden stacking game is a 'must' for every child. They are not usually very expensive, but regardless of their price, will be a valuable investment; a toy that will be played with for years, and that is educational. Baby stores online and offline sell a huge variety of games like these that promote good all-round progress in your child's abilities.
