For Many People Living In Des Moines Acupuncture Is The Best Possible Treatment

By Lila Barry

Mankind has always had a healthy interest in all matters related to their wellbeing. The past few years have seen a big move towards alternative medicines and therapies. Many people feel that modern medicine do little more than poisoning the body and causing unacceptable side effects. Natural remedies are growing in popularity and for people that live in Des Moines acupuncture has become the preferred method of treating a host of maladies.

The art practiced by acupuncturists is probably the oldest healing art in the world. The history of this age old traditional Chinese medicine can be traced back to the Neolithic Age and probably even further back to the Stone Age. Practitioners use needles that are then controlled manually or with electrical stimulation. However, the use of needles is just one aspect of this old therapy.

The Chinese believe that all disease is caused when the natural flow of energy, called qi, is disrupted or blocked at certain critical points named acupoints. In order to ensure healing such blockages must be cleared and the natural flow of qi must be reinstated. This is done by manipulating the acupoints, using one of several techniques to achieve the desired result.

Critics point out that extensive research has failed to find any evidence of a natural flow of energy, or qi. No research has been able to confirm that acupoints exist either. Yet other research has shown that the technique has proven to be effective in pain relief and in preventing nausea after surgery. Yet more studies have shown that the method is effective in treating depression and a number of other psychological conditions.

Regardless of the opinions of the critics there has nevertheless been official recognition for this type of therapy. Not only do acupuncturists enjoy endorsement from the World Health Organization, but the theory is also officially recognized by the National Institution of Health in the United States and the National Health Service of Great Britain. One area of agreements amongst all experts is that therapy is not invasive and that there is no or very little danger to patients.

Many professional acupuncturists believe that they are able to cure or at least relieve the symptoms of most diseases. Clinical trials have not been able to prove such claims but most practitioners are able to report amazing results in pain control, the management of nausea and a variety of psychological conditions such as depression and anxiety. Many people seek help for getting rid of addictions such as smoking and substance abuse and many successes have been reported.

The choice of a practitioner is an important one. It is vital to use a practitioner that is properly trained and that adheres to the ancient theory of this method. There are many practitioners selling their services without proper training and most certainly without practicing proper hygiene. It may be wise to demand for references and to actually follow them up.

In Des Moines acupuncture treatment is extremely popular. Many people can testify to the benefits they have enjoyed from this non invasive treatment method. Alternative therapies are certainly gaining in popularity and this one is one of the greatest growth industries.
