Raleigh Chiropractor Provides Disc Compression Therapy

By Julio Riess

The human body is extremely interesting. There are so many things that the body goes through, that would amaze even the most common people. Unfortunately, a lot of the changes that occur, happen as the body ages. Degenerative disc disease is a disorder that a Raleigh chiropractor comes in contact with a lot.

The condition can occur throughout the entire spine, but is most likely to occur along at discs that are located in the lower back and neck. Lower back pain increases, as discs in the area begin to deteriorate. Older individuals develop the condition, as their spinal column begins to straighten out, as they age.

Spinal discs do serve a purpose. It is with these discs, that movements are able to be cushioned, and support to the spinal column is offered. These discs appear between the spinal vertebrae. With age, the discs start to flatten, their harder outer shell of bone, begins to either crack or become extremely brittle.

Unfortunately, degeneration of the intervertebral discs is a normal part of the aging process. It is also associated with other risks factors, such as obesity, heredity, and smoking. At birth, discs are approximately eighty percent water. However, overtime, the discs will start to dry out and will lose their flexibility. By the time a person reaches the age of sixty, they have some type of degenerative disc disorder.

The pain that is associated with degenerative disc disease can be managed. People suffering from the disorder can manage the condition by engaging in a rehabilitation program, exercising, and improving their posture. There is only one type of management routine, aside from personal management routines for pain that exists.

The management method that a Raleigh chiropractor will use is known as decompression therapy. It is a new form of management that is designed to alleviate pain. Aside from alleviating pain, the management method will also reduce the added pressure that is being put on the spine, due to the deteriorated discs.
